Armando Marino was born in Cuba in 1968, he currently lives and works in New York. His education was acquired both in Cuba and the Netherlands, from the Escuela Provincial de Arte “Joaquín Tejada” in Santiago de Cuba, through the Facultad de Educación Artística del Instituto Superior Pedagógico “Enrique José Varona”, Havana, Cuba; onto Rijksakademie van Beldeende Kunsten, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
His works include paintings, paper works and installations, using bold, vibrant colors, in multiple layers to build up his oil or watercolor works. He claims that the most important lesson learned from these Cuban artists was the awareness of contemporary art theories and concepts. Much of his work reflects social unrest, protests and rebellion.
His works have been selected for numerous solo and group shows and are included in many international private collections, such as De Nederlandsche Bank, the Netherlands; Coca – Cola Foundation, Spain; Deutsche Bank Collection, USA; Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. He also received several awards, including the Second Prize at the 1st Salon of Cuban Contemporary Art and the Honorary Mention at the 30th Festival International de la Pinture.
